Can I visit Banteay Chhmar as a day trip from Siem Reap?
Yes, but it is a long day — roughly two hours each way. If you can, stay one night in the village. The temple at sunrise with no one else there is the reason people remember this province.

When exactly can I see the Sarus Cranes?
January to April, with numbers peaking in February and March. The watch starts at 05:00 and is booked through the community wardens. Outside that window the cranes are not on the reserve.
Is there a bus from Poipet to Serei Saophoan?
Yes — buses and shared taxis cover the 48 km in about 45 minutes to an hour. Have small US dollar notes ready, and allow extra time around Thai public holidays when the border queues build.
Do I need a guide at the temples?
Not compulsory, but strongly encouraged. Many provincial sites are unprotected and undocumented in English; a community guide explains what you are looking at and their fee helps protect the site.
Can I buy silk directly from the weavers?
Yes. The Phnom Srok weaving families sell directly to visitors and to trade buyers, with no intermediary. Prices are typically well below retail boutiques.
Are the roads suitable in the wet season?
Partly. Sealed roads are fine, but the reserve and some provincial temple routes use laterite road that becomes difficult after heavy rain. Ask us for current conditions before you set out.
